“Sunshine” is here!

We teamed up with Of a Kind to bring you our Playscape Throw in this sunny salmon hue. The colorway is perfect for summer picnics and snuggles on the couch. All of our throws are made from 100% cotton and woven right here in the USA.

In addition to launching the “Sunshine” throw this week, Of a Kind also wrote a story about the Sci-Fi inspiration behind our knit paintings. If you feel like getting nerdy, check it out on their website.

Shoppe Object Trade Show in New York.

We were thrilled to show our new line of rugs and pillows in the winter 2019 Shoppe Object Trade Show last weekend. We shared a booth with fellow Portland designers, Primecut and Workshop The Granite, whose designs we love. We’re excited to be carried by new stores…stay tuned, we will be sure to let you know where you can find Soft Century products in person!

What we’ve been up to this Fall!

We’ve been very busy in the last couple weeks getting ready to launch our new collection, City, and participating in some exciting events with other Portland makers. Here’s a run down of where we’ve been!

Earlier this fall, I got to sit alongside fellow RISD graduates and talented artists Jamison Sellers of Bolster Furniture and Gary Bodker of Gary Bodker Designs for a panel hosted by MadeHere PDX and the IIDA. We discussed a range of topics, from materials and creative inspiration to business and manufacturing in a conversation moderated by Kelley Roy of ADX. It was inspiring to talk with Gary and Jamison, who are both running their own businesses and making great products. Seriously, check them out!

For the first time, a group of Portland textile artists got together to launch the inaugural Portland Textile Month. October was filled with over 30 textile workshops, gallery openings, talks, and pop-ups around the city. Soft Century was featured in the Textile Design Product Mixer at MadeHere PDX and Stockpiler’s pop up at Kat and Maouche. Thanks to all of the artists involved and everyone who came out to participate! We can’t wait for next year.

I also spent a week in New York meeting with retailers and being inspired by exhibits at the Met, the Cloisters, and Dia Beacon. While there, I had the chance to meet Alicia Scardetta and Caroline Kaufman, two incredible textile artists from Brooklyn. I’m sure I’ll be back soon!

Introducing Soft Century’s first collection, City.

We created City with the goal of bringing the spirit of public design into your home. Just as great parks and plazas enliven our communities with inhabitable art, our rugs and pillows aim to inspire your favorite spaces and everyone who steps into them.

City will launch in November 2018, online and in select US stores. We've got some great events planned for the month of November. Sign up for our mailing list to stay in the loop. Sign up now.
