What we’ve been up to this Fall!
We’ve been very busy in the last couple weeks getting ready to launch our new collection, City, and participating in some exciting events with other Portland makers. Here’s a run down of where we’ve been!
MAKERS FORUM, HOSTED BY MADEHERE PDX and THE IIDA OREGON CHAPTER
Earlier this fall, I got to sit alongside fellow RISD graduates and talented artists Jamison Sellers of Bolster Furniture and Gary Bodker of Gary Bodker Designs for a panel hosted by MadeHere PDX and the IIDA. We discussed a range of topics, from materials and creative inspiration to business and manufacturing in a conversation moderated by Kelley Roy of ADX. It was inspiring to talk with Gary and Jamison, who are both running their own businesses and making great products. Seriously, check them out!
PORTLAND TEXTILE MONTH
For the first time, a group of Portland textile artists got together to launch the inaugural Portland Textile Month. October was filled with over 30 textile workshops, gallery openings, talks, and pop-ups around the city. Soft Century was featured in the Textile Design Product Mixer at MadeHere PDX and Stockpiler’s pop up at Kat and Maouche. Thanks to all of the artists involved and everyone who came out to participate! We can’t wait for next year.
I also spent a week in New York meeting with retailers and being inspired by exhibits at the Met, the Cloisters, and Dia Beacon. While there, I had the chance to meet Alicia Scardetta and Caroline Kaufman, two incredible textile artists from Brooklyn. I’m sure I’ll be back soon!
